Salt Dough Gift Tags

Have you ever made salt dough? We usually make it around Christmas every year. It's so easy to make and has multiple uses. Last year we made ornaments and a baby's handprint plaque. This year we used the dough to make handmade gift tags for our Christmas presents.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup salt

  • 1 cup cold water

Directions:

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C).

  • Step 2: Mix flour and salt together in a bowl. Slowly mix water, a little bit at a time, into flour mixture until dough is smooth and easy to handle. Knead dough thoroughly.

  • Step 3: Press dough flat and use desired cookie cutters to create your shapes. Make sure to use a straw to punch out a hole in the shape before baking. Arrange on a baking sheet.

  • Step 4: Air dry for a day or two or bake in the oven until dry and hard (about 2 hours).

You can leave them plain like this or paint them. We like to add glitter and/or paint and top with Mod Podge. Attach string to the shape to hang or fasten on gifts.
